MAR Insider List Management: How Issuers Can Simplify Compliance

Recent MAR changes have simplified some insider list requirements. Here’s where issuers can go further by reducing the manual work around lists, communications and regulatory workflows.

Keeping an insider list up to date under the Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) can be time-consuming. The rules may now require less information, but maintaining the list, notifying insiders and keeping a reliable record still create administrative work.

A transaction starts, a few people are brought in and external advisers join as the project moves forward. Each change must be recorded, communicated and acknowledged.

Anyone working in IR or compliance will recognize this process. Recent changes under MAR have simplified some insider list requirements, making this a good time to consider how much manual work still goes into managing them.

What has changed for MAR insider lists?

The EU Listing Act introduced reforms to make European public markets more attractive and reduce unnecessary requirements for listed companies, while continuing to protect investors and market integrity. As part of these reforms, a revised insider list format took effect in July 2026, reducing some of the information issuers must collect and maintain.

IR and compliance teams still have plenty to manage. They must keep lists current, notify people, track responses and retain the records. If the required information is becoming simpler, the process around it should become simpler too.

Why does insider list management become difficult?

Take an acquisition or financing as an example. The group with access to inside information rarely stays the same from beginning to end. Employees may be added at different stages, lawyers, accountants and other advisers may need access, and people will join or leave the project as it progresses.

Every change creates work. The list must be updated, notifications sent and acknowledgements tracked. The team also needs a reliable record of what happened and when. When this work is spread across spreadsheets and email threads, details are easy to miss.

Is everyone working from the latest version? Has each person received the right communication? Who has acknowledged it? When was somebody added? If you need the history six months later, how easy is it to produce?

Individually, these are small tasks. Across several projects, with multiple parties involved, they add up quickly.

How can digital insider list management reduce manual work?

Dedicated insider list technology can reduce this administrative burden. Teams can manage lists, notifications, responses and records in one workflow instead of tracking them separately.

Through the Notified and Logwise partnership, issuers can add digital insider list management to their existing Notified services. The Logwise solution includes automated notifications, confirmation and read-receipt tracking, audit trails, versioning and timestamps that document changes.

For the people managing the process each day, this means fewer manual follow-ups and a clearer view of the status of every list.

“Our aim is that compliance should not be a burden, but rather the foundation for building trust, increasing operational efficiency, and creating added value for stakeholders.”

Technology can handle much of the repetitive administration. It can also show the team what has been completed and what still needs attention.

How do insider lists fit into the wider regulatory workflow?

Insider lists are one part of a wider regulatory workflow. During a sensitive corporate project, IR and compliance teams control who can access inside information and document that access. When the information must be disclosed, the focus shifts to publishing it accurately and efficiently.

The same people are often involved in both activities, even when they use separate processes and systems. Logwise’s insider list management complements Notified’s European Regulatory News services, which support regulatory announcements in 17 European countries. Bringing these activities closer together means fewer systems and handoffs—from maintaining insider records to distributing regulatory announcements.

A more practical approach to MAR compliance

The recent MAR changes are a good reason to review the process. If the team is still comparing spreadsheet versions, searching email threads for acknowledgements or manually following up on outstanding actions, there may be an easier way to work.

A few practical questions can tell you a lot:

  • Where is the team spending the most time?
  • Where are things most likely to get held up?
  • Can you quickly see which actions are still outstanding?
  • If someone asked for a complete record tomorrow, how straightforward would it be to produce?

A good insider list process should make these answers easy to find. The team should be able to confirm that information is current, see where action is needed and access the right records without delay.

For issuers, that means less time spent administering MAR compliance and more confidence in the process behind it.
